Description

This Luchon area museum was founded in 1926 in a charming little castle built in 1772 by the baron of Labarthe-de-Neste, Marc-François-Bertrand de Lassus-Nestier. This borders the Allée Etigny which had itself just been laid out by Antoine Mégret d’Étigny the Intendant of Gascony. Its objective has been the protection of the rich local heritage dispersed in the upper Comminges valleys and to keep a record of the local mountain customs and traditions. The Julien Sacaze company gave collections which the town completed to set up the initial museum. The municipal museum houses these collections linked to Bagnères-de-Luchon and its surroundings thus providing its exclusive Luchon quality.
