Genuine junction of the Gaves Valley, Argelès-Gazost displays an exclusive character. Two million years ago, in the Quaternary, the region received the huge ice that came from Gavarnie, Vignemale and Balaïtous which left behind a large valley, fertile and sunny. It was a real gain for the people who lived in the mountains, whose life was organized around the two rivers of the famous mountain stream of Pau (Gave de Pau).
